Welcome to Casa Camiño
Casa Camiño a Casa de Aldea is a beautiful complex of ancient stone buildings that date back hundreds of years, all of which have been lovingly restored to create a quiet, restful and very comfortable place to stay. We are ideally located in the heart of Galicia, with good quick connections to all major roads and airports. So you will be able to tour all round Galicia by car, visiting the many varied attractions and stunning sites, but still be back with us for dinner that evening. Alternatively you could use our accommodation as a stepping-stone to travel the region, as you will find there are plenty of places to stay in other parts of Galicia. We are situated directly on the path of the Camino Primitivo or Real making us the perfect stopping point for Pilgrims to take a breakfast or a lunch break before setting off again on the road to Melide. You may want to spoil yourself and book in with us for a very comfortable overnight stay in one of our beautiful bedrooms, before continuing on your Camino to Melide the next day. The hotel is also only 14 minutes by car or Taxi from Palas de Rei which is a stopping point on the Camino Frances. If you take an inexpensive trip in a Taxi from Palas de Rei to us, you could have a well earned rest in one of our luxurious bedrooms for one or maybe two nights if you wish.
Casa Camiño’s dining room is on two levels which follows closely the original building design, this is where our guests can take breakfast, lunch and dinner or if you wish you could take your meal outside in the central courtyard. Breakfast for our guests is an excellent continental buffet, laid out in the dining room with lunch being a selection of light meals from our menu in the Gatehouse. In the evening, if you wish to join us we serve a menu of three courses for 20.00€. Please try to inform us in advance of any special dietary requirements so that we can cater to your needs.
We have a cozy evening lounge where you can sit, watch a movie on the TV with it’s great sound system, listen to some music or maybe just relax quietly and read a book.
You could also spend some time in the ancient gatehouse with its enormous solid Chestnut entrance gates. The gatehouse has the look and atmosphere of a medieval banqueting hall, this is a great place to sit with a glass of local wine and eat a couple of tasty Tapas. With all it’s glass sliding doors open the Gatehouse becomes a part of the brown slate paved central courtyard, which has tables and chairs for you to eat and drink alfresco should you wish. Casa Camiño is staffed by English speaking personnel but everyone will do their best to cater for all languages.
Casa Camiño has five beautifully appointed bedrooms, three double bedrooms, one twin bedroom and one triple room (double and single bed) which is fully fitted for the wheelchair user. Two of the bedrooms have a connecting door which creates an ideal family suite which will sleep five people (You must phone to check availability of the family suite). Two of the double bedrooms have bathrooms with showers over the bath, all of the other bedrooms have well appointed shower rooms. All the bedrooms have digital TV (Spanish TV and Radio stations with some programs available in original languages) with iPod docking and a built in DVD/CD player in the TV, hairdryer, electronic safe and with free WiFi connection through out the building.
Casa Camiño’s grounds are extensive and very natural, so you could go and explore or take a seat at one of the various seating areas and admire the breath taking views across the valley. There are also plenty of quiet private places for you to sit and chat with other guests or just enjoy a quiet moment on your own, the choice is yours. You could also sit up the hill on the ancient stone threshing area, while there just take a moment to wonder at how in the past men carried and laid these massive stone slabs in this out of the way spot. We find one of most beautiful spots to quietly sit at sunset is by the entrance drive, here you can sit and watch the sun disappear into the hills to the west over the river valley. But do not worry there is virtually no traffic to disturb you. While you are taking in all the views why not try our very own cocktail, a long cool ‘Casa Sunset’, of course the ingredients are a secret and if l told you, well l think you know the rest. But l can tell you it does have lots of ice and is just perfect to pass the time on those long warm Galician summer evenings.
